Make children‘s lunches fun and exciting with new Hovis crumpets!

AD – sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

It can be difficult to get children to eat their meals, but by making it fun, you can encourage them to love their meal times and try new things.

These new Hovis crumpets are brilliant for making into an enjoyable lunch or breakfast for little ones. They’re super versatile and can be served with either sweet or savoury toppings.  Their perfectly round shape makes them the ideal base to make into animal faces that children will love!

These can either be made and served by a adult, or for even more fun, this can be set up as a creative activity for kids by setting up a crumpet bar with various fruits and letting children create their own crumpet animals!

Here’s how I made these Hovis crumpet animals

What you’ll need:

  • A knife
  • Chopping board

Ingredients

  • Hovis crumpets
  • Strawberries
  • Raspberries
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Apple

How to make the lion

Method

  1. Firstly, toast the crumpet.
  2. Secondly, hull and half the strawberries vertically, as many as you need to go around the outside of the crumpet to form the lions main.
  3. Cut off the excess strawberry from the back of each slice to allow them to lay flat on the plate.
  4. Next, half a raspberry and a blueberry.
  5. Once the crumpet is toasted, add a layer of butter and allow it to melt into the crumpet.
  6. Place the strawberry triangle slices around the outside of the crumpet to form the lion’s mane.
  7. Chop 3 pieces from the small ends of the banana, trying to keep them as similar size circles, and two large ones from the middle/the widest part of the banana.
  8. Lay the rest of the fruit slices on top of the crumpet as photographed.

How to make the cat

Method

  1. Firstly toast the crumpet.
  2. Secondly, hull and half two strawberries to form the cat’s ears.
  3. Cut off the excess strawberry from the back of each slice to allow them to lay flat on the plate.
  4. Next, half a raspberry, a blueberry and chop two round slices of banana.
  5. Once the crumpet is toasted, add a layer of butter and allow it to melt into the crumpet.
  6. Cut a slice of apple and then cut thin slices to make the whiskers.
  7. Lay all of the fruit slices on top of the crumpet as photographed.

Tip – If you’re looking for a savoury lunch idea instead, simply add pizza sauce, grated cheese and whatever toppings you desire to your crumpets and cook in the oven to make your own mini pizza crumpets!
